Antonio Banderas is stepping into the world of fashion. The Legend of Zorro actor and newly enrolled fashion-school student is portraying one of the most famous designers ever – Gianni Versace. Vogue reports that the 55-year-old star has been cast to play the fashion icon, who was tragically murdered in his Miami home in 1997. Little is known about the movie.

Vogue explains the upcoming biopic will start shooting at the end of the year in Italy and Miami, where the Italian fashion designer was murdered. The film, which is being directed by Bille August, will give viewers a glimpse into the life and death of Versace. We can’t wait to see all of the glitz, glamour, and gold this movie will have!
Yahoo pointed out that the house of Versace stated it has nothing to do with the film and that it “should only be seen as a work of fiction.” In 2013, Lifetime explored the life of Versace’s sister, Donatella, in the film House of Versace. The Italian fashion family made it known they didn’t approve of that movie either.
While we don’t know much about the unauthorized film, other than Antonio Banderas is playing the fashion icon, we can assume that the film will showcase Versace’s extravagant lifestyle, his rise to stardom in the fashion world, and his friendships with Elton John, Madonna, Princess Diana, and Sting. It will be interesting to see who else is going to be cast in the upcoming biopic.
Antonio Banderas seems to be taking his role very seriously. Last August, the 55-year-old actor shared a photo on Instagram of him sewing. He revealed he was taking classes at the prestigious art school Central Saint Martins in London. If that weren’t enough, the Spanish star is collaborating with Selected, a Spanish menswear brand. Antonio will team up with the brand for two suit collections that are set to hit the runway in the fall of 2016.
