April Kry has released a brand new single “Fireflies”, an upbeat summery sounding tune with an infectious melody that transports listeners back the days of their first love. Written by Jennifer Pappas, JP Rende and Kathryn Rende, this song combines heartfelt lyrics with April’s stunning vocals. By the chorus, listeners will be singing and dancing along.
Q: Where are you from?
AK: Im originally from Connecticut, so I’m a northerner. It is very different from Nashville, where I stay now.
Q: What does the city of Nashville mean to you?
AK: Oh my gosh, Nashville is everything to me. I was a little nervous moving here from Connecticut just because it’s so different and it was such a big move. Everyone just kind of welcomed me with open arms. It’s very differently because everyone is so supportive. Also, there are musicians here who have the same goals as you do. You’d think it would be very competitive, but it’s not like that at all. At least nothing I’ve experienced here has been like that. I’m very thankful to call it my home and to have met the people that I have down here for sure.
Q: Was there ever a back-up occupation for you?
AK: You know, a bunch of people asked me that when I was younger and I would always try to figure out something different, but I couldn’t wrap my head around doing anything else. That’s what really pushed me. When I graduated high school, I was looking at colleges and finally came to the realization that I could not imagine myself doing something else, so I knew I just had to go for it. There have definitely been times where I had to get over hurdles. In this business, you really have to have thick skin and I didn’t when I first go into it, but I learned to let stuff roll off. I just think that if this is your dream, you really have to pursue it in order for it to work out.
Q: Who is your absolute biggest inspiration?
AK: The number one person to inspire me to do music would be my dad. He is a musician as well and he kind of got me into music in the first place. When my sister and I were younger, he would always play guitar and sing us songs that would make us dance around and enjoy it. I always just related music to family and love and thats really the reason why I fell in love with music. He definitely inspired me in that respect. Im so thankful to have parents that are so supportive of my dream.
Q: What has been the hardest part for you in pursing a career in music?
AK: I guess the hardest part for me is realizing that is isn’t always about how much talent you have. You have to realize that there is a huge business aspect that you have to study and really get good at in order to really have a chance at making it. When I first started out I thought just because I can sing I could make it, but I had no idea what I was in for. Its crazy how much you learn.
Q: What’s your favorite part about the music industry?
AK: I think one of the biggest thing for me is being able to connect with my fans and just hearing them reach out to me on how my songs relate to them. I remember growing up when certain songs would help me get through some very hard times and that is what music is all about. That’s why I really love doing what I do. Music just brings us all together.
Q: Going forward in your career, what kind of songs are you going to sing?
AK: I love writing about a bunch of different subjects, so you’re gonna hear a bunch of different subjects. Its not always going to be about love. “Fireflies” is definitely about love, don’t get me wrong, but a lot of my other stuff is going to be very different.
