On Sunday night (July 31st), the Teen Choice Awards paid tribute to victims of gun violence. Teenage family members of the shootings joined Jessica Alba on stage and it was by far the most powerful moment of the night. “It keeps happening and it needs to stop,” Jessica Alba expressed.
The 24-year-old Star Wars actress was so moved by the homage that she wanted to keep spreading the message about gun violence. On Monday, Daisy Ridley shared a post on Instagram and Facebook about how touched she was by the Teen Choice Awards tribute. It didn’t take long before negative comments started coming in.
The now deleted post read, “[As] I sat in the audience yesterday tears were streaming down my face at the tribute to those that have been lost to gun violence,” Daisy captioned. “I didn’t get a great picture of the incredible group that came on stage but they were so brave. It was a true moment of togetherness. We must #stoptheviolence.”
The post immediately received backlash, with people also criticizing Daisy for being a hypocrite due to the violence in the Star Wars films. While the actress received negative comments, there were a few people who agreed with Daisy’s post. Soon after, her Instagram post and account was deleted. Her Facebook post, which also shared the same message, was also deleted.
According to The Nerdy Bird, the Star Wars actress briefly reactivated her Instagram account to explain her deleted account. “I just want to be on my phone less! Trying to be more present and all that and got a busy few months ahead so wanted less distractions… It’s all good! :)” She added, “I always appreciate the support and love the Instagram community! X.” She wasn’t lying about being busy because it was announced she will be starring in an adaptation of a YA novel, Chaos Walking.
