Game Of Thrones: Can You Guess Who Dies?
Fans from across the country went nuts last night over the Game of Thrones season five finale, “Mother’s Mercy.” All I can say is, it was EPIC!
Spoiler Alert: I do not want to ruin the episode for you so, PLEASE do not read this unless you have watched it!
Wow. What an episode! So many people lived, and so many people died.
The show started off with Stannis Baratheon getting ready to march on Winterfell. He gets word that half of his army left after Stannis burned his daughter, Shireen, alive at the stake during last week’s episode. Ugh… that was so sad! Honestly, I’m glad some of his army decided to leave. Then, Stannis finds out his wife, Selyse, committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree. Yikes.
Come to find out, Melisandre took off for Castle Black. She must have known Stannis would fail. Or was this her plan all along? Hmm… interesting. Killing Stannis’s family was all for nothing because once Stannis reaches Winterfell, the Bolton army is waiting for him. Stannis stands alone, injured in the woods before Brienne finds him. Then, she finally gets her justice for Renly’s death.
I honestly thought she was going to spare his life for a moment. But it was time for him to go. Stannis is dead!
Brienne was keeping an eye on Winterfell just in case Sansa Stark needed to be rescued. Just seconds before Sansa gets the opportunity to light a candle in the tower, that is when Brienne takes off headed for Stannis. Comeee onnnnn! If Brienne would have stood there for like .10 more seconds! These darn producers are killing me!
Luckily, Sansa knows she needs to get out of Winterfell. She runs into Reek/Theon, and Ramsey’s ex-Myranda. Myranda threatens to shoot Sansa with an arrow, and Theon takes control. He throws her over the wall! Myranda is dead! Whoo. It’s about time Theon helped Sansa! The two notice Ramsey coming back so they join hands and jump from the wall of Winterfell. What happens after that? AHH…we don’t know!
Over in Braavos, Arya goes undercover for the chance to take a life from someone on her kill list. After blinding the Meryn Trant and stabbing him to death, she says one last thing, “I’m Arya Stark. Do you know who you are? You’re no one. You’re nothing.”
She takes his face to hang it on the wall in the House of Black and White and Jaquen H’ghar is there just in time to teach her a lesson. He says, “only death can pay for life” and he drinks a poison.
Arya is devastated. At first it seems as if Jaquen had sacrificed himself because of Arya’s selfishness, but after her reaction over potentially losing him, that showed that she wasn’t ready to give up her identity after all. Jaquen reveals that he is still alive, and says, “The faces are for no one- you are still someone. And to someone, the faces are as good as poison.” Arya looks at her own face on the person she thought was Jaquen, then she loses her sight entirely…
Will she get it back? Please get it back! I want to see Arya leave that darn place so she can go find her sister, Sansa!
Sooo… Khaleesi finally landed with her dragon, Drogon, in an unfamiliar place. Drogon had no interest in taking her back to the city. So Khaleesi goes looking for food on her own. She walks down into the valley, where A-TON of Dothraki warriors ride on their horses and start circling her and screaming. OMG. The last thing we see is Khaleesi take off her wedding ring from Drogo and drop it on the ground. OMG. OMG. I have nothing else to say here.
But who will rule the city while she’s gone?! You guessed it, Tyrion Lannister. Of course Missandei and Grey Worm will be by his side. Daario and Jorah decide to head off and find their Queen. This should be interesting considering,
- Jorah has some sort of stone disease and
- Both guys are in love with the same woman! AWKWARD.
After an exhausting and somewhat poisonous trip home from Dorne, Jamie, Bronn, Myrcella, and Trystane set sail for King’s Landing. Right before they leave, Ellaria Sand, gives Myrcella a loongg, kiss goodbye right on the lips!
On the boat, Jamie finally tells Myrcella that he is in fact her father, and the two embrace in a nice family hug. About ten seconds later, Myrcella’s nose starts bleeding and we find out she was poisoned. Myrcella is most likely dead! We see Ellaria Sand’s nose also bleeding, and right before we think she sacrificed her life to kill Myrcella, she takes the antidote. Darn it! That couldn’t have been a worse daddy-daughter moment.
Cersei is definitely going to be mad about her daughter being poisoned. I wonder what will happen to Trystane…
However, Cersei isn’t really having a great time being locked in the dungeons. She decides to confess, not to incest with her brother, but for incest with her cousin, Lancel. She begs the High Sparrow to let her see her son, and he tells her he will let her return home. Buuuttt, there’s a catch. She must go through atonement first.
This is probably the worst thing an actress can do. She had to walk naked in front of a huge crowd (the townspeople) after all her hair was just cut off, and people were throwing food and spitting on her, while a nun was ringing a bell and shouting, “SHAME SHAME SHAME” behind her. That sounds awful for actress Lena Headey. However, she might not have been naked during all of the scenes. During an interview with the actress, Headey reports that a body double was used. She even talks about getting into character.
“It’s not hard when people are screaming at you and you look like shit and you’re being f–king humiliated to figure out how that would feel. There’s a part of you that’s f–king terrified. I can’t even imagine people wanting your blood. Cersei has done wrong, but she doesn’t really deserve this.”
Hmm… I agree. But I do think that she should just finally come clean and tell the truth about sleeping with her brother! It’s been too long. Come on.
And now… the most shocking death from this episode. Jon Snow. Ughhh whyyyy?!
Jon’s last friend, Sam decides he wants to be sent off to Oldtown so that he can be trained into a Maester to replace Aemon. But once he does, all the Night’s Watch brothers band together. They trick Jon out of his office and surround him in front of a “traitor” sign. They each take a turn stabbing him to death. And last but not least, Olly takes the last jab. Jon is dead! Noooo.
Producers of the show give us an inside scoop about Jon’s death.
“This is obviously a big deal, the death of Jon Snow, this is something we’ve been thinking about for a long, long time…. It’s one of those great conflicts that makes us love the books and this saga: it’s ultimately not just about good versus evil, it’s about people of good intentions who come into conflict with each other because they have very different views of the world, and unfortunately, it did not work out well for Jon Snow in this case.”
However, fans of the book tell us this could not be the last we see of Jon Snow. Something to do with how Lady Melisandre returns at just the right moment. Hmmm… I guess we will have to wait and see!
And that’s the end of Season Five! So many cliffhangers! We just want to know what happens! Let us know what you thought about the Game of Thrones season finale in the comments below! Did you notice something interesting we didn’t?
