Yahoo reports that Idina Menzel will record new, additional songs for the Lifetime remake. Still haven’t seen the original movie? Don’t worry, you have plenty of time because Lifetime’s Beaches is set to premiere in 2017. The Beaches TV movie announcement comes just a week after the famed director, Gary Marshall, died at the age of 81. Allison Anders (Ring of Fire) is set to direct the Lifetime remake.
Beaches is a tale of friendship, so call your friends, order some pizza, and put on your waterproof mascara because this film will make you cry! The film follows the story of two girls, CC and Hillary, who meet each other on the Venice Boardwalk. Although they are from different worlds – Hillary is a privileged, rich debutante while CC is a struggling entertainer – they share a rocky, but strong friendship that lasts from the first time they met to their adult years.
Yahoo notes that Idina Menzel’s CC is an aspiring singer who is trying to making it in Los Angeles, and she is discovered by a director who gives CC her first big shot. Hillary’s role in the Lifetime remake has yet to cast anyone to fill Barbara Hershey’s role. While Idina Menzel doesn’t have co-star yet, she shared on Instagram that she “cant’ wait to start shooting #Beaches remake for Lifetime.”
