iHeartMedia Fireside Chat With Pharrell Williams

They chatted on the topic of creativity and collaboration titled, “Creating Constellations: Unleashing Creativity Through Collaboration.” Introduced by iHeartMedia Chairman and CEO Bob Pittman, the conversation centered around how Pharrell has successfully blended art, science and instinct to create unique and exciting collaborations across media, entertainment, and fashion. As an innovator and creative force in the music industry, he has helped to fuel a trend for increasingly diverse collaborations, and played an integral role in redefining culture and commerce within the music arena.
The auditorium was extremely packed! So many people piled in just to see this interview with Pharrell. The 11-time Grammy winner talked about his infamous song, Happy, that sold 6.45 million copies in the United States alone. He said, “The success of the song was not blueprinted by money… it was dependent on all those millions of people worldwide who decided that they liked it enough to share it, to purchase it, to stream it, to tell their friends about it.”
When asked about how he goes about working with other artists, Pharrell says it’s all about a feeling. He said, “Everyone gives off an energy, and I think that’s one of the things that people are so dismissive about.” “We’ve had to do a lot of fighting and convincing people, whether it’s a label or the management.”
