Luis Guzman Red Carpet Interview: Puerto Ricans in Paris
Luis Guzman talked to Entertainment Scoop this past Friday at the World Premiere of his new film, Puerto Ricans in Paris.
In the interview, he discusses the chemistry he shares with co-star Edgar Garcia, which he attributes to their 40-year friendship, as well as to their past work together on HBO’s How to Make it in America.
He says that their relationship is somewhat like the relationship the two share in the movie, with Edgar being a bit more grounded than Luis. But the two know how to play off of each other well, as was evident in both the interview and the film.
Guzman also discussed his new role as an executive producer on the project, which he says was easy for him because he put his trust in the team to do well and didn’t really have to worry about business in the creative atmosphere of a film production.
The film, starring Guzman and Garcia, follows two lauded NYPD forgery detectives to Paris, after they are hired by a French designer whose newest, hottest women’s bag was stolen before its launch date.
The two must overcome the initial fish-out-of-water atmosphere, as well as their baser urges when interacting with the many attractive females in the Paris fashion world.
Ian Edelman, the co-writer and director of the project, has previously worked with both actors as a part of the HBO series How to Make it in America, which he created and wrote.
The other screenwriter on the project, Neel Shah, is a veteran of network tv comedy writers’ rooms.
The film also stars Rosario Dawson and Rosie Perez as the significant others of the two detectives.
The film premiered June 12 at the LA Film Festival, and will have a wider release later in the year.
