NEEDTOBREATHE Talks New Album HARDLOVE

NEEDTOBREATHE talks to us about the launch of their sixth studio album “HARDLOVE”, debuted at No. 2 on Billboard and more.

What was the direction when creating your new album “H A R D L O V E?

NEEDTOBREATHE: With this record, we wanted to think outside of anything we had tried to do in the past. We are in a more vibrant place as a band than we’ve ever been and we wanted the new music to sound like that. We have learned a lot over the years and are more comfortable in our own skin. H A R D L O V E is a reflection of that.

With everything going on in the world right now, has that effected the content in this album?

NEEDTOBREATHE: definitely does. We write songs about the things we are going through. We’ve always tried to be as transparent and honest as possible. The world around us is a crazy place. If something we write or sing about can give someone a glimmer of hope in the midst of it all, then we’ve hit the mark.

Your Album just debuted at No. 2 on Billboard just behind Drake’s new album. That is HUGE, congratulations! How does that feel?

NEEDTOBREATHE: Thanks! Its ridiculously cool for us. We have the best fans in the world and they made it happen.

NEEDTOBREATHE – “HAPPINESS” [Official Video]

Your new single “Happiness” has been doing great on radio. Is there a formula when creating a sing for radio or do you just create and see what happens?

NEEDTOBREATHE: Weve never really tried to write a radio song but some songs end up fitting the format. We just write things that weve fallen in love with and then hope the fan does the same. We love HAPPINESS and hope through radio, it can reach a larger audience.

This album was recorded at your own studio Plantation Studios in Charleston, SC. How is the creative processes like recording there opposed to other studios?

NEEDTOBREATHE: We love it. By working at home, you can take all the time you need to explore sounds and get things right. Seth Bolt, bassist and studio extraordinaire, is one of the best engineers around today and were lucky to have him behind the desk most of the time.

You will going on tour this August. What is the craziest story you can tell us when being on the road in the past.

NEEDTOBREATHE: Last year, we sold out Red Rocks for the first time which was ridiculous for us. It was one of the best shows of our career. The first 6 songs flew by so fast because we were so nervous/excited. Crazy enough, we just found out that our show there this year has also sold out. Insane.

How was it like performing at MLB weekend?

NEEDTOBREATHE:
Awesome! We are massive baseball fans so to be a part of MLB weekend was really fun. Go Braves.

Tell us about the two exclusive tracks on the deluxe album of H A R D L O V E.

NEEDTOBREATHE: We were lucky enough to partner with Cracker Barrel on the release of our new record. We are the first rock band to ever be featured in store so thats pretty exciting. There are also two bonus tracks on the CB release which are demos from the beginnings of WHEN I SING and LETS STAY HOME TONIGHT.
