The current roster of celebrities vying to be the next James Bond has created a huge buzz around Hollywood about who will secure this coveted role. Some of the names that have been thrown into the mix includes Damien Lewis, Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston to name just a few. Currently odds makers have Tom Hiddleston holding the top spot with 3/2 odds to land the role.
On the business front, Sony’s distribution deal has ended, which has added another interesting twist to the story. The blockbuster series rights are now up for grabs and it has created a studio bidding war to see who can secure the rights to the franchise. All the major players such as Sony, Fox, Warner Bros. and Paramount are among the studios trying to secure a deal with MGM. It is anyones guess on who the winner will be but that could also play a factor in who will secure the lead 007 role.
The Bond films are the longest continually running and the third-highest-grossing film series to date, which started in 1962 with Dr. No, starring Sean Connery as Bond. As of 2016, their have been twenty-four films in the Eon Productions series.
The Bond films are renowned for a number of features, including the musical accompaniment, with the theme songs having received Academy Award nominations on several occasions, and two wins.
Adele’s “Skyfall”,won the award at the 85th Academy Awards, and Sam Smith’s “Writing’s on the Wall”, won at the 88th Academy Awards.
