Paige Young Tells All to Entscoop!
Paige Young is an up-and-coming pop star hailing from the U.K.! We got a chance to speak with the amazing musician this past weekend and we LOVED Paige. She has an EP released on iTunes and Spotify called “Polaroids” and it really shows who Paige is as an artist, especially her song Dream Chaser. Paige just had a performance at the S.O.B.s in New York and we’re so sad we missed her, but feeling lucky we got to talk to her when she was in L.A.
Q: So I know you just had a performance in New York. How did you like the city?
A: I just got off the plane from Atlanta, I was in New York for a couple days, too. I love New York, I love performing at the S.O.B’s. I love the energy out here and I’m having fun everywhere I go, really. I have never been to a place where I haven’t really enjoyed and I always love meeting new people.
Q: How would you describe your music to people who haven’t heard it?
A: I would say it’s kind of like sultry, and sexy but also fun with an edgy feeling. I just love doing pop and R&B and my music really says who I am as an artist.
Q: When did you decide you wanted to pursue a career in music?
A: I was about five-years-old and I was performing and going to dance school. As I got older I wanted to take it more seriously but didn’t really know how, and I got a chance to go to music college and there I met a bunch of music producers and I just started recording, and that’s how I got into the industry. I was sixteen at the time and all my friends were going to universities and got jobs and I said this is what I want to do so I just kind of stuck to it. My journey has been really good so far.
Q: Who is your favorite artist and who inspires you as a performer?
A: Growing up as a child, my parents were really into soul and jazz, and of course, Michael Jackson. Now as a performer on stage, Beyoncé is a huge inspiration to me because I learn from her everyday. She really inspires me, I just love the tone in her voice, the emotion in her face on stage, and just the way she sings and deliver her music. I’ve also learned many different things from different artists and try to use it for my music but also keep it me.
Q: What is your favorite song from Polaroids?
A: Dream Chaser 100% is my favorite song of all time. It just means so much to me. The song explains what music really means to me and how my journey has been so far. The message of this song is to never give up on your dreams and you will reap the rewards. I feel that so many people can relate to it no matter what they’re doing.
Q: Do you like being on stage?
A: OMG, I loved it! I want to do it again!
Q: Life of a performer must be tough. What is your drive to keep going?
A: I just always had the drive and ambition. I’m not a quitter. I always tell myself I’m seeing it through and I’m doing it until the end, and just do my best. Also because I’m happy, I think if wasn’t happy and I didn’t want to do it, I would have given up a long time ago, but that has never ever gone through my head once, it was never an option for me. I never had a backup, I just don’t believe in that because I feel like I just need to follow my dreams and I never want to do anything else.”
Q: What was your most embarrassing moment on stage?
A: I was holding a mic and dancing on stage. Usually, I have a wireless mic and last minute they said we haven’t got a wireless mic, and I wasn’t really used to dancing with a wire. So I was dancing on stage and I just did a weird movement and fell on my face. I’m actually pretty accident prone, I’m usually the one that falls over.
Q: Do you have any fun or cool plans in the near future?
A: I’m going to be moving to Los Angeles next week, and I’ll be staying for six months recording new material and performing and just getting myself out there. I’m really excited to move out there and get new material out.
Q: What do you want your U.S. fans to know?
A: I’d love for people who have listened to my EP, and liked it, to just support my journey and be on it with me. Hopefully we can build a fan base and get bigger. I would just love more than anything for my fans to join me on my journey.
Q: Are you currently dating anyone?
A: No I’m currently single and looking for the man of my dreams, so if you know anyone, let me know! Single and ready to mingle!
