E.B. Wright, daughter of Eazy E, chats about memories of her dad, her take on the movie and more!
Lynn: So tell me a little bit about your childhood
E.B.: Well..you know my dad passed away when I was only four years old. But I remember being in his office, hanging around at home. My mom, Tracy, is also involved in the music industry as well, so I pretty much grew up in the business.
Lynn: You say you grew up in the business – which means you were in the midst of a lot of your parents friends and colleagues. Who looked out for you as if you were their own?
E.B.: Of course Bone Thugs, Snoop, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube for sure. They always looked out for me and still do until this day. They were really close with my dad, so they took it on as their duty.
Lynn: What was your favorite memory with your dad?
E.B.: It had to have been my 4th birthday – he rented out the amusement park and we had a blast the entire day! Something that I will never forget.
Lynn: Well, you’re getting to witness even more memories being made in concerns to your dad with the new film, Straight Outta Compton. What were your thoughts after watching?
E.B.: Overall, I loved it! Jason Mitchell, who’s a really good friend of mine, played my dad. It was literally everything that I would have imagined him to be. Jason spoke to my family, watched countless YouTube videos and really studied the character of my dad and it shows.
Lynn: I’d imagine it was pretty hard for him studying day in and day out like that.
E.B.: Most definitely, because he didn’t have the luxury to have the character he was portraying on set with him as the others, who also did phenomenal. With the resources Jason had, he did his thing.
Lynn: Awesome, so tell me about you. I know you are a musician yourself, with your dad playing a role I‘m sure – but what other artists influence your style?
E.B.: Well, my dad influenced me as a businesswoman and entrepreneur. But a lot of my music has urban influence and I grew up different, listening to a wide variety. I love Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani! I’ve been working hard on my music and can’t wait to let you guys hear it in late September.
Lynn: We wish you the best of luck E.B. and don’t forget about us when the project drops!
