Star Wars: The Force Awakens on track to break $1 billion in box office sales. Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few days then this movie has been thrust upon you in every which way possible. The latest instalment from the franchise has sent the world into a star wars frenzy and to be honest, whether you are familiar with the franchise or not, chances are by now you are well on your way to becoming a star wars fan.
The movie smashed predicted box office sales after grossing more than $100 million in a single day, but that is only a fraction of the the Amazing part. Fridays domestic release reportedly took in a record breaking $120.5 million .. what??? The opening day record puts an end to the records previously held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 as well as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey . I do not know about you but I am yet to hear a bad review on the movie. The record breaking streak continues, Christmas day box office takings have reportedly exceeded $40million. Opening weeked figures were at approx $529 million completely obliterating the $296.2 million set by Jurassic World and it doesn’t end there. It is predicted the movie will break the $1 billion mark by the end of this Sunday.
John Boyega responds flawlessly to critics
By now you should be familiar with John Boyega, the 23 year old black British actor who takes on a starring role in the new movie, the actor who has faced some staunch criticisms from some twisted individuals who felt having a black stormtrooper was enough to make them decide to boycott the movie has hit back at his critics in the best ways possible. In a recent New York Times interview the British actor stated:
“I’m grounded in who I am, and I am a confident black man. A confident, Nigerian, black, chocolate man,” he said. “I’m proud of my heritage, and no man can take that away from me. I wasn’t raised to fear people with a difference of opinion. They are merely victims of a disease in their mind. To get into a serious dialogue with people who judge a person based on the melanin in their skin? They’re stupid, and I’m not going to lose sleep over people.”
When asked if he felt the need to respond to critics the actor replied flawlessly
“I just don’t get it. You guys got every single alien in this movie imaginable to man. With tentacles, five eyes. Aliens that, if they existed, we’d definitely have an issue,” he said. “We’d have to get them to the government and be, like, ‘What are you?’ Yet what you want to do is fixate on another human being’s color. You need to go back to school and unlearn what you have learned.”
I think it’s pretty safe to say that we are going to be seeing a lot more from this talented actor. He has already won over the legions of Star Wars fans and we all know how seriously difficult that can be.
Speculation is that the Script for the next instalment is already better than the current one. We already can’t wait!
