After nearly nine years together, Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler have decided to go their separate ways. An insider for US Magazine stated, “Vanessa and Austin are officially broken up, and Vanessa has been telling those close to her about their breakup.” Rumors of the young couple’s split began to spread as the lack of social media presence between the two over the holidays became apparent. In fact, the last time the two were seen together was via Vanessa’s Instagram post on Halloween where they are pictured embracing one another on a couch with the caption, “Happy Halloween from my family to yours.”
Through the holidays and her birthday, Vanessa posted many pictures of her travels to Vals, Switzerland and birthday partying with her younger sister on her Instagram all with Butler nowhere to be found. Austin Butler, most known for his recent role in, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, was casted as Elvis for a film last summer, which is set to begin filming this year in Australia. The break-up may have come as a shock to Cosmopolitan UK readers as Vanessa recently opened up in an interview about their relationship in a positive manner: “It’s eight years this year – FaceTime, good communication, respect and trust [are what keep us going],” the actress shared with the outlet. “The longest we’ve been apart was four months. It sucks! You start hating hearing yourself say ‘I miss you.’ But if it’s your person, you make it work.” That distance just so happens to be the reason for the split as a source told E!News, “They’re just shooting on two different continents and it’s a matter of distance. There is no bad blood at all, and they have a lot of respect for each other.”
Though the couple have thrown in the towel for now, a source at E!News stated, “Though Hudgens and Butler are split for now they’re going to see what happens. They have such a history and deep connection they could find their way back to one another, [but] right now she felt like he needed to go and be single and see if that’s what he really wants.” For now, Vanessa can enjoy her Netflix success with her recent Christmas movie, The Knight before Christmas, and the soon to be released, Bad Boys for Life. She will also be busy with, The Princess Switch: Switched Again, the sequel to her Netflix original film, The Princess Switch, as it has currently begun filming, and according to her IMDB page pre-production has begun on, Tick, Tick… Boom, a film based on the autobiographical musical by playwright Jonathan Larson. Austin Butler has nothing on his plate this year other than the previously mentioned Elvis Biopic that has already begun filming and is set to be released next year.
