Bella Hadid Shares Rare Look at Her Battle with Lyme Disease

Bella Hadid opened up about her struggles with Lyme disease on Instagram last week, in an effort to be transparent with her fans.

The 24-year-old top model had been diagnosed with Lyme disease back in 2012 along with her younger brother Anwar and her mother Yolanda.

Sharing Her Battle

“Living with a few chronic autoimmune disease = always finding time for my IVs,” reads Hadid’s caption to a trio of photos.

The photos show Hadid masked up with an IV tube in her arm while she got her hair done at Jenna Perry Hair Studio in NYC. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this disease so it requires constant up-keep.

This is not the first time the supermodel been vocal about the disorder, having spoken up about it previously at the 2016 Global Lyme Alliance gala in New York.

“I know what it feels like to not want to get out of bed from bone pains and exhaustion for days on end,” she confessed.

Bella’s Transparency

To her credit, Hadid has always tried to keep it real with her fans on Instagram. She’s always offering glimpses, such as these, into her life beyond the glittery runway.

Last fall, she posted about Lyme disease symptoms and mentioned that she experiences “at least 10 of these attributes without fail” on a daily basis. In addition to promoting physical well-being, the 24-year-old star has become somewhat of mental health advocate.

She frequently shares messages of positivity and self-care on social media, urging fans to take care of themselves. The supermodel is also candid about her mental health, and shares when she is having bad days.

Fans, touched by her humility and candor, shower her feed with well wishes, and declarations of love and support

Joining the Hadids in their battle against this autoimmune disorder are celebrities like Justin Beiber and Avril Lavigne who also have Lyme disease.
