Billie Eilish Slams #AllLivesMatter Supporters on Instagram
With the killing of George Floyd being so prevalent in the media and the Black Lives Matter movement trending nearly every day on social media, celebrities have been protesting, donating, and posting in support. Many have come to terms with their white privelege.
No one has done this quite like eighteen-year-old alternative singer Billie Eilish.
Eilish took to Instagram to make a statement to not only her fans, but to anyone who says #AllLivesMatter in response to posts about the Black Lives Matter movement.
She starts off saying:
“I’ve been trying to take this week to figure out a way to address this delicately. I have an enormous platform and I try really hard to be respectful and take time to think through what I say and how I say it. But holy f-cking sh-t, I’m just gonna start talking. If I hear one more white person say “aLL liVeS maTtEr” one more f-cking time, I’m gonna lose my f-cking mind,” she continued. “Will you shut the f-ck up? No one is saying your life is not hard. No one is saying literally anything at all about you. All you mfs do is find a way to make everything about yourself.”
She continues to go on talking about how white people were able to protest over things like stores being closed and gun rights recently, but people protesting for human rights are being shot with rubber bullets and teargassed.
The singer calls it as it is: “White. F-cking. Privelege.”
She writes, “The slogan of #BlackLivesMatter does not mean other lives don’t. It’s calling attention to the fact that society clearly thinks black lives don’t f-cking matter. And they f-cking do.”
Several celebrities like Sza, G-Eazy, and Zoë Kravitz co-signed on her statement in the comments.
Eilish has previously spoken on several issues in society, including body image, the oversexualization of her body, and people’s issues with what she wears. She has pushed the idea that people should be comfortable in their own skin and clothes without anyone judging them.
