High School Musical: The Musical: The Series has been a soaring and flying success, sweeping the ‘TV Star’ Category at the Kids Choice Awards.
The series set at the infamous East High follows drama club members as they prepare for various musicals, navigate relationships, confront rivalries and rebuild friendships.
We caught up with Joe Serafini “Seb” and Adrian Lyles “Jet” on the orange carpet, where they talked about their spin on the iconic High School Musical.
“It’s not exactly like the original, we were able to make it our own, in our own special way,” Serafini said.
Instead of taking a musical theatre approach, Lyles stated that it takes the form of a pop music approach, gearing more toward Generation Z humor.
“It’s like if you take High School Musical and take The Office and shove it together,” Lyles said.

Both exclaimed that being at the Kids Choice Awards and a part of a nominated show was a dream come true.
They used to watch their idols walk the carpet and attend the award ceremony, now to be a part of the tradition was “crazy!”
“This is a childhood dream come true, being on the orange carpet is insane,” Lyles said.
That’s not the only memorable tradition that excited Serafini and Lyles.
“Just to be a part of the High School Musical legacy that we grew up loving so much, it just means the world,” Serafini said. “To see how they’ve reinvented it and made it for a new generation, it’s really spectacular.”
Lyles agreed, stating he is thrilled to be a role model for those watching.
“To think some kid is going to watch us like we used to watch Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, I think that’s absolutely insane to be a part of,” Lyles said.
Speaking of high school, the two actors wanted to leave a piece of advice for those currently going through that titillating, awkward phase.
“Just be chill, I feel like everyone gets caught up so much and everything feels so right now, but just take a step back and focus on you,” Lyles said.
Serafini stated that you have to take one day at a time.
“It’s hard to move forward when you’re looking sideways,” Serafini said.
Be on the lookout for Season 4 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, releasing as early as July or August!
