Chrissy Teigen Opened Up About Struggling to Breastfeed

Chrissy Teigen opened up on Twitter about her struggles with breastfeeding, and the need to normalize the use of formula. Chrissy explained that as a new mom, you are constantly told that breast is the best, which can be difficult for an anxious mother to hear.

The Anxiety of Being a New Mom

Chrissy explained in a Twitter thread that she felt guilt and shame because she could not breastfeed. She felt extreme sadness because she could not provide for her baby herself, so she instead turned to formula.

“The stress of it, combined with the guilt that you cannot do nature’s most natural thing for your own baby is too much,” tweeted Chrissy.

Many new mothers struggle with breastfeeding, and often take it personally and think it reflects on their ability to be a good mother. Chrissy is trying to eliminate the stigma that surrounds formula!

She spreads a message that makes sure new moms know that not being able to breastfeed does not reflect badly on them as a mother, or change the fact that they are incredible mothers, doing everything they can to provide for their baby.

Normalizing Formula

She wanted to ensure that all new moms knew that it is perfectly normal to use formula. “…Your baby is gonna be BEAUTIFUL, PERFECT AND OKAY,” commented Chrissy in a Twitter thread.

New moms are often told that they must breastfeed their baby, and that formula is not the right option. However, many new moms find breastfeeding very difficult, and do not get the results they hoped for.

Chrissy tweeted “I remember pumping my ASS OFF, highest mode, so often, because I didn’t trust milk was going into their mouthes if I breastfed. It drove me to the point I could only get ounce, an ounce!”

What This Means for New Moms

New moms are constantly told what is right for their child,  but oftentimes, this does not include what is right for them as mothers. Chrissy Teigen coming out and publicly saying that it is okay to use formula is an extremely important step forward in the new mom community.

Chrissy is working to eliminate the stigma that exists around using formula, and is letting moms know that there is no shame in not being able to breastfeed! She wants all moms to know that their baby will be perfect, regardless of how it is fed.

“As long as your baby is fed, you are doing perfect, mama,” wrote Teigen.
