16 Dec Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin Have Sparked Engagement Rumors
Are Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin going to tie the knot? The 31-year-old actress has been seen wearing what appears to be an engagement ring while shopping in West Hollywood, sparking rumors that the 43-year-old artist popped the big question.
The Private Couple
Dakota has been with Chris since 2017, when seen together at a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles. They have kept their relationship private, but have matching tattoos and are seen at events together, including Dakota’s appearance in Coldplay’s music video for “Cry Cry Cry” from their Grammy nominated album.
What We Know
On December 11, Dakota was spotted with a large emerald rock on her ring finger while out in West Hollywood. The beautiful ring was on full display and definitely caught everyone’s attention.
While both are private about the relationship, there is no official confirmation from either of their representatives, but sources have stated that they are “pretty serious,” according to People.
“They are very low-key together. They seem to enjoy sharing a quiet life. It does seem they are getting more serious,” a source told People in April 2020.
Thoughts From Family and Friends
Chris has been previously married to Gwyneth Paltrow and shares two children with her, 16-year-old Apple, and 14-year-old Moses. Gwyneth approves of Dakota and “adores her” and even made a happy birthday post for Dakota on Instagram, calling her an “absolute gem.”
“I love her, I can see how it would seem weird because it’s sort of unconventional. But I think, in this case, just having passed through it iteratively, I just adore her. I always start to think of the ampersand sign – what else can you bring in, instead of being resistant to or being made insecure by? There’s so much juice in leaning into something like that,” said Gwyneth.
When it comes to Dakota’s parent’s opinions on the relationship, there are some mixed feelings. In January 2018, the “Fifty Shades of Grey” actress’ father, Don Johnson called their relationship “troubling.”
When asked at the National Television Awards about his daughter’s relationship, the actor stated, “Yeah, that’s.. uh troubling, isn’t it? No, she’s a big girl, she can handle herself!”
When her mother, Melanie Griffith was asked about the relationship at the Global Gift Foundation USA Women’s Empowerment Luncheon in 2018, she said she “adores” Chris! She stated that Dakota is very private about her life and she respects those boundaries.
In 2019, Melanie Griffith gave the final approval vote at the Farrah Fawcett Foundation’s Tex-Mex Fiesta in Beverly Hills when talking to People.
“I love my daughter’s boyfriend. I think that they’re an awesome couple,” she stated.
It appears that they have been pretty serious for a while and are both head-over-heels in love! The ring is gorgeous and looks amazing on Dakota, so we are hopeful for a confirmation and are so happy for both of them!
