Dancing with the Stars Recap: Icon’s Night!

It is Icon’s Night on Dancing with the Stars!” The last seven couples honored their favorite musical icons with new amazing dance routines to a style that they hadn’t performed yet. Let’s get right into the outcomes of the night. 

Stars and Their Pro Partners

Kaitlyn Bristowe and her partner, Artem Chigvintsev, danced to the iconic Britney Spears and completely smashed it. They performed to the song “Toxic” and it was one of their best dances yet. The two received a perfect score and it was definitely one to celebrate.

Nelly and his partner, Daniella Karagach, paid tribute to Tupac with a dance that was a spin on jazz. Nelly was obviously enjoying himself the entire time and was very relaxed throughout the entire routine. “You were cool, confident, in your element,” Bruno said. “You have to maintain that in other dances.” Overall, Nelly did an amazing job and really entertained all of the judges. Nelly got a score of 24/30 from the judges.

Johnny Weir and his partner, Britt Stewart, danced to “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse. They performed a quickstep and definitely put their fast feet to the test! The duo did an amazing job. “The actual quickstep was excellent. You didn’t skimp on anything,” Bruno praised. “We’ve never seen a quickstep like that,” Carrie Ann added. “You pulled it off beautifully.” The pair received a perfect score from the judges and were more than pleased with the results

 BackStreet Boy, AJ McLean, and his partner, Cheryl Burke, performed a tribute to Freddie Mercury. The pop star started off strong but throughout the dance had trouble with the choreography. He had various mistakes throughout the routine, earning himself a 23/ 30.

Skai Jackson and her partner, Alan Bersten, performed a dance to the one and only Janet Jackson. “You channeled a new fierceness,” Carrie Ann said. “This is one of the most grownup dances we have. You lived up to it,” Bruno added. They did an exquisite Paso Doble that brought out all of the fierce and intense energy from Skai. The pair received a 27/30 from the judges.

Nev Schulman and his partner, Jenna Johnson, danced the Jive to “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)” by icon Elton John! The judges awarded this duo straight nines across the board! This gave them a score of 27/30

Details on the Dance Off

This show was extra special because the contestants also participated in a dance off and it was so exciting. Nev and Jenna had dance-off immunity, based on Episode eight’s leaderboard, so the rest of the couples had to battle it out!

Justina and Sasha went up against  Kaitlyn and Artem. They danced a Cha Cha to “Telephone” by Lady Gaga featuring Beyoncé. Justina and Sasha won this battle!

Nelly and Daniella went up against Skai and Alan, doing a salsa to “Cup of Life” by Ricky Martin. Skai and Alan took home the win in this dance battle!

AJ and Cheryl were up against Johnny and Britt, doing a jive to “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by Wham. AJ and Cheryl took the victory!

After calculating the fans’ votes and judges scores the two celebrities at the bottom two were AJ McLean and Johnny Weir. After the judges’ votes, AJ McLean was eliminated.
