#dollypartonchallenge Breaks The Internet
By: Alyssa Naumann
The Dolly Parton challenge has gone viral. It started when American singer and actress, Dolly Parton, posted on Instagram last week. The post consisted of a four-square grid, with a different picture in each square representing the different kinds of people you present yourself as on different social media sites. There is the LinkedIn, professional wear and businesswoman look, the Facebook family friendly picture in a Christmas sweater loving life, Instagram, a little more personality and style for your inner-circle of internet friends, and, lastly, Tinder, showing Dolly’s most revealing self in a scandalous bunny costume.
Dolly Parton’s picture choices are perfect for the challenge. I think anyone would agree that her pictures encapsulate exactly what each social media platform is about. Whether it is the professional look or the risky pics, Dolly Parton created something amazing here. She even captioned the instagram post “Get you a woman who can do it all” with a winky face emoji. The post originally demonstrated the singer’s versatility, but turned into a viral meme shortly after.
The post blew up, with over 1 million likes, causing people and different celebrities to participate in the fun. There is the hashtag #dollypartonchallenge that people tag on their own posts. People have even made accounts called Dolly Parton Challenge where they repost celebrities hilarious collages. The amount of celebrities that have taken part in the challenge is crazy. Everyone is talking about the challenge, and having fun playing around with it.
Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Oprah Winfrey, and Ellen are just a few of the celebrities that have done the challenge and posted it to their accounts. Miley Cyrus captioned her collage “Dolly’s setting world wide trends shouting out platforms she don’t even use.” Other celebrities like Sam Smith, Mariah Carey, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Will Smith have also participated, and you can find their posts on their instagrams. Kerry Washington posted her collage too, with the caption “Inspired by @dollyparton, of course!” Obviously, a lot of people were inspired by Dolly’s challenge.
The famous people wasted no time in jumping on the challenge. They nailed their posts, choosing some very professional, or very unprofessional pictures to demonstrate different versions of themselves. The posts are easy to create with a simple collage making app, like Instagram’s collage feature that you can use with the layout button. The app store also has free collage making apps that make it easy for anyone to participate in Dolly’s challenge.
Other celebrity participants were Mark Ruffalo, Mindy Kaling, Martha Stewart, Diplo, Jennifer Garner and Doug the Pug. There is no shortage of celebrities following in Dolly’s footsteps. Not all the participants are celebrities either. You can find other people’s posts with the #dollypartonchallenge hashtag all over instagram. Although January isn’t over yet, Dolly Parton might have just started the best challenge of 2020. So will you join the (so far) biggest challenge of the year and show your versatility like Dolly Parton did?
