15 Feb HBO Max Boss Reveals How Samantha Jones Is Written Out of “Sex and the City”
If you couldn’t help but wonder what will happen to Samantha Jones in the “Sex and the City” reboot, the answer is finally here. The HBO MAX executive has finally come out and explained what will happen to Samantha’s storyline.
The news of the reboot, “And Just Like That”, was announced in January by Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. The reboot will follow the three friends and how they’re navigating their life and friendship in their fifties.
Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha is not going to participate in the reboot. She has distanced herself from SATC as well as all the cast members since 2016. In 2017, Cattrall was accused of being at fault for the third “Sex and the City” movie being cancelled on short notice.
With “Sex and the City” comes a lot of off camera drama. There were rumors about arguments between Cattrall and other co-stars. Cattrall explained that the relationship between her and her co-stars was “toxic,” according to Buzzfeed.
Fans speculated different endings for her character including killing her off. HBO’s executive described her absence as similar to their real life falling out. HBO stated that the group will no longer be friends with Samantha Jones’ character in the reboot.
“Just as in real life, people come into your life and people leave. Friendships fade, and new friendships start,’ HBO’s Casey Bloys stated. “So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages – the actual stages of life.”
“They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her fifties in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50,” he continued.
This is similar to what Cattrall described on “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories,” describing them as “just colleagues.” Cattrall stated that they weren’t friends while filming the series, just coworkers.
“We’ve never been friends. We’ve been colleagues,” Cattrall described. “They all have children and I am 10 years older, and since specifically the series ending I have been spending most of my time outside of New York so I don’t see them. The common ground that we had was the series, and the series is over.’
“And Just Like That” will feature Maranda (Nixon), Charlotte (Davis), and Carrie (Parker) exploring similar problems they faced in their 20’s and 30’s. Now, it is 20 years later, and the women are in their 50’s. While Samantha’s character will not be appearing, all the original feels and love stories will be coming back!
