How To Self-Care In a Quarantine

Just because we’re all locked in our houses during this quarantine doesn’t mean we can’t pamper ourselves and come out of this looking better than before. Here are a few self care methods that are quite frankly keeping me sane while I social distance.

 

Face Masks

 

While I love a self care face mask and am stocked up for the next two months, there are also some really great natural alternatives out there than you can make at home.

First off, start with some facial steaming. If you don’t have a steamer at home you can always steam your face at home by bringing a pot of water to a boil, pour the water into a bowl(make sure its not plastic, place a towel over your head to direct the steam to your face and place your head above the bowl.

OPTIONAL: If you want to get fancy add a few drops of essential oils to the water

Afterwards, put a mask on. My skin is sensitive so I’m always meticulous on what I put on my skin.

When my skin is feeling tired I like to do a nice refreshing aloe vera mask. Take a dollop of aloe vera gel or the gel from fresh aloe vera if you have the plant at home. Leave on skin for 5-10 minutes and then rinse off.

When my face is feeling flaky I make a mask out of ½ avocado, 1 tablespoon honey, and a handful of oats. I love this mask because it gets rid of my excess dead skin cells and I almost always have all the ingredients in my house at any given time. Massage into skin and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse well after.

 

Get Some Endorphins

 

It can be hard to get some exercise in when we’re all stuck in our homes for the next few weeks. Since being in quarantine, my daily steps have completely plummeted. Getting a few steps in makes me feel better about my otherwise lazy ways so I’ve started to get creative.

In these days, Instagram Live is your best friend. Many of the fitness trainers and influencers that I follow have started posting their workouts during the quarantine. This is honestly a godsend and Ive been able to try some workouts from trainers and studios that I wouldn’t be able to afford unless I sold my firstborn. Even my favorite bar in San Francisco is hosting free line dancing classes on Instagram Live. This is the perfect time to broaden your horizons and learn something new from your living room because let’s face it, If no one can see you, no one can judge you

 

Find Yourself A Good Show

 

Distract yourself with some good programming. While trashy television is my way to turn my brain off, everyone is different. Rewatch one of your old tried and true’s or find a new love. My newest obsessions have been Tiger King, Black Monday, Love Is Blind, Dave, The Boys, and PEN15. If you want to feel even more accomplished pick a longer series… I’m personally gonna dedicate myself to rebingeing all of Game of Thrones in my downtime.
