13 Jan Kim Cattrall Engages in Tweets About ‘Sex and the City’ Reboot
As Samantha Jones once said, “if I worried what every b**** in New York was saying about me, I’d never leave the house.” One thing Samantha Jones and Kim Cattrall have in common is that they just don’t care! After the “SATC” reboot announcement, Cattrall got a little shady on social media.
Background on the Feud
Cattrall has separated herself from “Sex and the City” since 2017 after a long dispute. Cattrall had requested to be paid more and was not happy with what she was getting out of the productions. Rumors also circulated for years about the feud between Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker who plays Carrie Bradshaw.
SJP, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are all returning to set to play their original characters for the HBO MAX limited series “And Just Like That…” The character Samantha Jones will not be retuning in the show and fans are taking their guesses at what will happen to her character.
Cattrall Hints at a Response
Cattrall has not directly responded to the reboot but has been active on social media and liking some supportive tweets.
One fan tweeted, “I absolutely love Sex and the City and whilst I am saddened that Samantha will not return, I applaud doing what is best for you and think this is great example of putting yourself first. Well done @KimCattrall 💖💖💖,” which Cattrall liked.
Sarah Jessica Parker Speaks Out
Cattrall is not the only one active on social media post the announcement. SJP replied to a couple comments on her Instagram post announcing the reboot as well as on Twitter. One fan made an assumption that Parker disliked Cattrall and is the reason she won’t be coming back.
“No. I don’t dislike her. I never said that. Never would,” Parker replied. “Samantha isn’t part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do.”
Parker also replied to another fan who stated that they will miss Kim/Samantha and replied “We will too. We loved her so.”
Putting Herself First
Cattrall stated that she would never be involved in a reboot if it were to ever happen. A couple weeks ago when the reboot was just a rumor, Cattrall said that she feels “lucky” that she is no longer filming for “SATC” during a “Women’s Prize for Fiction ” podcast.
“I’m lucky enough to have the choice, not that I haven’t worked for it. I have. It’s something I feel very lucky to have and I’m very protective of it. I wouldn’t be any good doing something that I really didn’t want to do,” she said.
“I remember getting a lot of grief on social media for not wanting to do a film. It was astonishing some of the things people wrote to me — ‘I work in a bank and I don’t like this person and I don’t like the hours, but I do it. So you just do it! Give me what I want. I do it. I’m miserable, you be miserable too.'”
Samantha Jones once said, “I love you, but I love me more.” Just like Samantha, Cattrall is practicing putting herself first and doing what’s best for her. What are your thoughts on this reboot without Samantha’s character? Drop a comment below and let us know!
