Meghan’s Suicidal Ideation
While Prince Harry has advocated for mental health as a royal, in the CBS interview, the Duchess of Sussex discussed having suicidal thoughts during her time with the British royal family.
“I was ashamed to have to admit it to Harry,” she said. “I knew that if I didn’t say it, I would do it. I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”
Markle revealed in the interview that she asked a royal family member about seeking inpatient care for her mental health, but the request was rejected. According to Meghan, the royal family member expressed that it would jeopardize the institution.
She also went to human resources, who informed her that she wasn’t a “paid employee at the institution,” so they couldn’t do anything to assist her.
