New Music Friday!

New Music Friday

The end of another week means another New Music Friday! This week we are excited to be hearing from artists of all genres.

New music this week comes from ILLENIUM, Brent Faiyaz, Joshua Bassett, Selena Gomez, Jorja Smith, and MOD SUN.

ILLENIUM ft. iann dior ‘First Time’

Today, electronic artist and producer Illenium  shared his song “First Time” featuring Iann Dior.

Currently, the DJ is preparing for the release of his new album. “I’ve been singing ‘First Time’ in my head ever since I first started working on it,” Illenium said of the song. “I’m such a huge fan of iann and this tune is such a dope blend of my favorite sounds right now.”

Iann Dior added, “I think ‘First Time’ is a perfect mix of our own styles and it’s something the fans are gonna love.”

Selena Gomez ‘Revelación EP’

The long awaited, Spanish language album, “Revelación” is here! Selena Gomez had released two singles off of the album “De Una Vez” and “Baila Conmigo” (“Dance With Me”), featuring Puerto Rican artist Rauw Alejandro.  Gomez is proud of her Latin heritage and wanted to go back to her roots with this album.

Recently, Selena also said in an interview that she wants to have her story told through her own voice.

Selena told Vogue that “De Una Vez” is such a beautiful song and I think it has a very powerful meaning behind it for anyone who has had their heart broken,” Gomez continued, “We all have the pain and the scars from various experiences we go through in life, but it’s really how we heal ourselves.”

Brent Faiyaz ‘Show You Off’

Another great new music release this week was “Show You Off.” The music video for this song was so important. It definitely brought major tears to my eyes.

According to Brent Faiyaz’ Instagram, this new music release was dedicated to women for  Women’s History Month. All the women in the video are Black. At times like these, when Black women have been portrayed as aggressive, or angry, or even ugly by media, this video shows the love that Black women deserve.

The “Show You Off” video is showing how Black women and girls should be treated.

It’s just beautiful. Brent isn’t afraid to show his love and appreciation for Black women and women in general. He simply does not make bad music.

Joshua Bassett Self-Titled EP

Joshua Bassett put out his first ever EP today. This comes after a lot of drama surrounding him and “High School Musical: the Musical: the Series” co-star, Olivia Rodrigo.

There has been some speculation that certain songs are about the situation with Rodrigo, but Bassett says that is not at all the case.

“I’m feeling really good,” Bassett, 20, shares. “We’ve had this EP ready to go. It was supposed to release six months ago, so now that it’s finally [come] out, I’m like, ‘All right!’ And plus, I wrote it over the last two years. So to finally get it off my chest, I’m excited and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

MOD SUN ft. blackbear ‘Heavy’

Today, MOD SUN, a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter released the song “Heavy” featuring close friend and collaborator blackbear. “Heavy” is a pop hit with underlying punk influences that features an explosive electronic chorus.

“This song is about finding out the ugly truth and feeling empty, so empty it feels heavy,” says blackbear.

“This isn’t a song that ‘features’ blackbear. This is the kind of song that two people come together to make one piece of art. Both of our souls live on this song,” explains Mod Sun.

This song is one that I will definitely be streaming for the next week!

Jorja Smith ‘Addicted’

For her “Addicted” video, Jorja Smith took the idea of quarantine filming to a whole new level.

This song really speaks about the feeling of loving someone so much who is just not giving the same energy in return.

When Jorja Smith said, “The hardest thing is that you are not addicted to me,” I felt that. Not to mention, “The hardest thing is that I am too selfish to leave.” A familiar feeling to many I’m sure.
