01 Jan New Music Friday!
These artists didn’t take a break this holiday season. Here are the hottest new music releases of the past two weeks!
Justin Bieber ‘Anyone’
Justin Bieber has made a Belieber out of me again. His new song, “Anyone” was released on New Year’s Day. It is seemingly about his wife, Hailey Bieber. In the song, Justin sings “You are the only one I’ll ever love, if it’s not you, it’s not anyone.”
The song is accompanied by an emotional video for which Bieber had his tattoos covered. In the video, the singer portrays a boxer whose wife stands worried on the sidelines watching his matches.
Blackbear and Wiz Khalifa ‘Cheers’
Blackbear and Wiz Khalifa joined to create a fun song celebration song, “Cheers.” The song discusses the highs and lows of life. In “Cheers” the artists share lyrics about toasting to the pain as they “hope the tears were for something.”
Something that we don’t talk about enough is the fact that Blackbear co-wrote Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” and could have ended his career there, but he has continued to bless us with music. This song is another great contribution from the artist.
It has been a busy year for Blackbear and Wiz Khalifa. Wiz released several mixtapes, an EP, and multiple collaborative singles. Blackbear recently shared his fifth studio album “Everything Means Nothing.”
SZA ‘Good Days’
SZA became an R&B favorite when she released her album “CTRL” in 2017. Since then, she has only released one song, “Hit Different” featuring Ty Dolla $ign . The R&B singer gifted fans with a new song this Christmas.
The dreamy tune is about how on good days, SZA tries to move on from the past and looks forward to her future. It features vocals from Grammy-nominated musician Jacob Collier. Some of my favorite lyrics were from the chorus, where SZA sings, “Still wanna try, still believe in good days, good days/ Always inside/ Good day living in my mind.”
Playboi Carti ‘Whole Lotta Red’
The rapper Playboi Carti released his second studio album, “Whole Lotta Red” on Christmas eve. The album was dropped amidst a feud with ex and the mother of his child, Iggy Azalea.
On the new 24-track album, Carti continues with his signature unearthly sound. He opts out of being a traditional lyricist and creates a very different sound. The Atlanta rapper had previously remained elusive since the 2018 release of his debut studio album, “Die Lit.”
Dixie D’Amelio ‘Roommates’
Dixie D’Amelio’s new song, “Roommates” discusses her struggles with her mental health. D’Amelio commented that this is now her third song dealing with depression because she has been fighting depression and anxiety for a while.
She points to the comments sections online as some reasons for her feelings of depression. The “roommates” in the song does not refer to those who live with Dixie, but the different people inside of her mind.
Aly & AJ – ‘Potential Breakup Song – Explicit’
Sisters Aly & AJ have released the explicit version of their classic hit song, “Potential Breakup Song.” The original version was first released in 2007. The song had recently gained attention again on TikTok. With the subtle changes, “Potential Breakup Song” is even more fun to belt out.
The release of this explicit version of “Potential Breakup Song” comes just weeks after Aly & AJ released a new song called “Slow Dancing.” A new album is expected from the two in 2021.
