29 Jan Our First Look at Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana
Pablo Larrain’s “Spencer” will focus on one singular weekend in the Duchess of Wales’ life, as she spends the Christmas holiday with the Royal Family at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, and decides to leave Prince Charles. The Biopic is written by “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight.
The choice to cast Stewart as the duchess was a controversial one, leading to a lot of anticipation surrounding the first look at the film.
Filming will take place in Germany and the U.K. and a fall 2021 launch is expected. 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death.
Principal photography for the film began this week and Larraín has released a first look photo of the star modeling the late Princess of Wales’s iconic fashions and hairstyle.
Stewart has seemingly stepped into Diana as she displays a masked but mournful expression behind the veiled brim of her hat, looking like a pillar of strength and vulnerability all wrapped up in a red blazer.
“Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need,” Larrain said of Stewart last summer when questioned on his casting motivations. “The combination of those elements made me think of her. I think she’s going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time. She is this force of nature.”
Judging by this first look, we are definitely intrigued and excited to see more of Stewart’s Spencer!
