12 Jan Sarah Jessica Parker Addresses Kim Cattrall’s Absence in ‘Sex and the City’ Reboot
Sarah Jessica Parker has broken her silence and addressed the absence of Kim Cattrall in the “Sex and the City” reboot. Sarah gave hints about what to expect for Samantha’s character in the reboot or lack thereof.
Plans for the Revival : a Party of Three
The original stars of the iconic early 2000’s show are Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes, Kristin Davis as Charlotte York-Goldenblatt, Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones and Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw. In the reboot, “And Just Like That…” Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda start a new chapter in their lives.
The Cast’s Past
During the original series, Cattrall distanced herself from SJP and other castmates due to money disagreements. Throughout the years they have gone back and forth but Cattrall has since stated that she will not participate in any more “SATC” projects. A fan commented on the teaser suggesting that she does not like Cattrall and that is the reason that her character is not returning.
“No. I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would. Samantha isn’t part of this story. But she will always be a part of us,” SJP replied to the fan.
Another fan commented that she will miss Kim/Samantha and SJP replied in agreement. “We will too. We loved her so. X,” she replied.
Journalist and author, Taffy Brodesser-Akner took to Twitter to demand answers for Samantha’s absence. She asked her followers to “respond below with your suggested plotline that explains Samantha’s absence.”
At first, SJP vaguely replied “Pen and paper at ready. X,” but the people want answers! Some fans were suggesting their ideas which included her PR career taking off, moved to Canada and even killing her off! Parker then replied again stating, “Exceeding all expectations. I am summoning discipline though desperate to suggest “hot/cold”.”
The last time Samantha was seen as part of the quartet was in “Sex and the City 2” in 2010. In 2017 she stated that she has “never been friends” with any of her “SATC” in an interview with Piers Morgan, despite Parker’s attempts to sugar-coat their relationship.
A New Chapter
“And Just Like That…” will follow the trio around as they “navigate the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50’s.” The series will include 10 episodes at 30-minutes each and is set to start filming in Spring 2021. Parker, Nixon, Davis and Michael Patrick King will all be executive producers for the limited HBO Max series.
This is an exciting new chapter for the trio and “SATC” fans. This reboot will help engage new generations of fans and bring back all the nostalgic feels from the original series for its previous fans. We are so excited to see how Carrie Bradshaw will turn the old into something new and fabulous!
