Six Hairstyles to Try for Wavy Hair | Scoop Sorority

Why should the curly and straight haired gals have all the fun? This handy hairstyle guide goes out to everyone with wavy hair, because taming the frizz without ruining the natural texture can prove to be a daily struggle.

Half-up Top Knot

Can’t decide whether to tie your hair up or leave it down? Well, now you won’t have to decide! Simply section off the top few layers of your hair and twist them into a quick top knot with a hair tie. Then, let your wavy bottom layers hang loose. This look takes under 5 minutes to nail.

Braided Ponytail

Want to jazz up your regular ponytail but not sure how? Simply combine it with a braid. You can pick a childhood classic, the french braid, or something a bit more unique, like the Dutch braid. Begin, by taking a small section of hair from the front on any side, braid and work your way down towards the back of your head. Once the braid reaches the back of your head, secure it and do the same on the other side. When both braids are complete, combine all of your hair into a ponytail.

Fishtail Braid

Have a formal event to attend and your wavy hair refuses to cooperate? Fishtail braid to the rescue! Switch up your braid-game by parting your hair into two rather than three sections, and then crossing over a smaller subsection from the outer edge of the right half onto the inner edge of the left half. Take a smaller subsection from the outer edge of the left half and bring it in to the right. Keep going till you reach the bottom. To really have the fishtail stitch shine through, loosen the braid and slowly tug at the edges to have it fan out down your neck.

Low Bun

Not only is this a model off-duty favorite, it’s also perfect for lazy days. The low bun can be dressed up or down with remarkable ease. Sweep your hair into a low ponytail and split it down the centre. Secure each section at the end with an elastic and then roll it up to the base of your neck such that the two halves can be easily tucked into each other. Fasten with bobby-pins and voila, all done!

Oversized Pigtails

For a real throwback to your childhood, give this updated version of pigtails a try! Separate your hair cleanly down the middle, before carefully dividing each half into three roughly even sections. Lace the three sections together into a chunky braid till you reach the base of your neck. Then, combine them into a single ponytail with a hair-tie and repeat on the other side. Swap out the hair tie with your favorite scrunchy, to pay homage to the ’90s.

Space Buns

If you’re on the hunt for a fun and flirty ’do, space buns will quickly become your new go-to. Start off by making a part down the middle of your hair, separating it into two equal halves. Tie up each half into a high ponytail with an elastic before twisting them into tight buns. They don’t have to be super neat, just let your personality shine through!
