‘SNL’ Cast Members and Fans Not Happy Elon Musk is Guest Hosting

“SNL” (“Saturday Night Live”) has an array of guest hosts – ranging from musicians, actors, to athletes.  However, no one would suspect CEO of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk, would guest host this week’s taping.

After SNL revealed Musk would host, the show received a lot of public backlash, and it turns out some of the cast isn’t happy either.

Elon Hosting

Musk is the first billionaire and non-entertainer hosting since Donald Trump in 2015.  The tech tycoon has a net worth of over $179 billion. The announcement came moments after Musk tweeted a cryptic tweet, hinting he’d be hosting the sketch comedy series.

“Let’s find out just how Saturday Night Live really is” Musk tweeted, followed by a grinning devil emoji. The tech tycoon as a net worth of over $179 billion.

Miley Cyrus will serve as the musical guest for the night. Cyrus has made no comment on Musk’s guest host spot.

Soon after the news was announced, many “SNL” fans took to twitter to share their thoughts.

“There really was nobody else available to host SNL,” one Twitter user said. “Elon Musk? Why?”

Another tweet read, “Elon Musk hosting SNL is huge for guys still making “that’s what she said” jokes who think they’d be great at hosting SNL.”

Many people’s problem with Musk stems from him downplaying the COVID-19 pandemic, and other polarizing takes involving union groups. More recently, Musk nonchalantly said “a bunch of people will probably die” when asked about his impending Mars mission.

Other’s simply believe the billionaire gained his wealth unethically.

Cast Members Disappointed

Not only were fans unhappy, but some of the “SNL” cast was upset as well.

The announcement led to certain cast members protesting the choice online. Comedian Bowen Yang took to Instagram to cast his dismay.

“What the F–k does this even mean?” Yang captioned a screenshot of the space mogul’s tweet.

In addition, fellow cast member Aidy Bryant also shared her concern. Bryant reposted a tweet made by Sen. Bernie Sanders that read: “The 50 wealthiest people in America today own more wealth than the bottom half of our people.”

Let me repeat that, because it is almost too absurd to believe: the 50 wealthiest people in this country own more wealth than some 165 MILLION Americans. That is a moral obscenity.”

“SNL” writer Andrew Dismukes also joined in on the public scorning.

“Only CEO I wanna do sketch with is Cher-e-oteri,” he said on Instagram.

Musk’s episode is set to air this Saturday, May 8, on NBC.
