Splurge or Save: Which High-End Products Are Worth it?

The glitz and glam of high-end products are tempting, but let’s be honest. Most of us aren’t walking around everyday singing “I want it, I got it” like our girl Ariana.

Sadly, we have to pick and choose, and whenever it comes to our wardrobe, these decisions can be really hard!

Knowing when to save up for a quality item, or when to snag a less pricey dupe can allow you to make the most out of your wardrobe and we’re here to help! Here are the high-end products you should splurge on, and the items where saving is the way to go.

Splurge

Handbags:

When it comes to high-end products, handbags obviously come to mind. As one of our most visible fashion accessories, your handbag should make a statement, and a designer handbag is well worth the investment.

A purse goes through a lot, it has to hold everything that you want to lug around.  Opt for a well-structured handbag that will withstand all the traveling, lugging around, and the small spaces you’ll inevitably cram it into.

Not to mention, you’ll never outgrow a bag, and the resale value is really good. Think of it as an investment!

Shoes:

Everyone loves footwear. Shoes are that one item that can complete an outfit and ensure you’re comfortable, so splurging make sense right?

Unless you have great finances, I wouldn’t recommend splurging on every pair of pumps, boots, or stilettos you see, but it is absolutely worth it to splurge on a few pairs that will be the everyday go-to shoes in your wardrobe.

Quality shoes are a necessity. You’ll get plenty of uses out of them, especially if you invest in a great pair that will hold up through the wear and tear.

Blisters, sore feet, plantar fasciitis? We don’t do that here.

Coats:

Depending on where you live, coats may be a very important (and necessary) part of your attire. If you live in an area where it is cold most of the year, a coat is going to be the most visible layer that you’ll wear, so of course you want it to look good!

Really, you’ll only need one or two coats. Which is why saving up to buy one that checks all your boxes is money well spent!

When it comes to coats, durability is key. Whether it is a rain coat or winter coat, it will be the out-most layer of protection from the harsh outside elements. It will need to hold up. If  it is a raincoat you’ll want to ensure that you get a brand known for its waterproof abilities, if it’s a winter coat, make sure it’s insulated and will keep you warm.

Jewelry

Have you ever bought a cute ring just for it to turn green on your finger? Yuck!

There’s a clear difference between fashion jewelry and fine jewelry. Realistically, both are okay, it just depends on what you are going for. Fashion jewelry is great for a one time event, or very little use. When it comes to the long term though, fine jewelry is the best.

Not only will the durability and lifespan of an authentic jewelry piece be much better, but the higher quality materials won’t irritate your skin.

Save

Tanks, Tees, and Basic Tops:

Every wardrobe should consist of some basic tanks, tees, and tops. Usually, these items are not the star of the style show so there is no need to pay big prices for big names.

You can find basic tops at almost every clothing retailer out there!

ASOS is known for being one of the best when it comes to basic wardrobe items.

Jeans:

Jeans, the one clothing item half of the population adores, while the others shiver as a flashback pops into their head. Jump, stretch, wiggle, pull. Jeans may single-handedly be one of the hardest items to show for, but that doesn’t mean you have to break the bank.

Personally, I thrift my jeans, and it has been nothing but a great experience. I’ve even been able to get my hands on great brands such as Levis, Guess, and PacSun.

In 2018, the average cost of women’s jeans ranked at$165 per pair and $210 for men. Instead of paying those prices, go to your local thrift store and get a great pair for $5-$10, sometimes still with the tag on.

Not a second-hand shopper?  That’s fine! There are plenty of places to buy jeans that won’t break the bank!

Lounge/Sleep Wear:

Splurging on lounge wear may be really tempting, especially when companies make everything look so damn cute! But, listen to the voice of reasoning her, most of the time no one will even see you!

Wouldn’t you rather save your money to put elsewhere, like towards pieces you can proudly show off for all to see?

If you’re looking for cuteness and comfort, Fashion Nova has some great sets for even better prices.
