10 Dec Taylor Swift Announces Surprise Ninth Studio Album
This is not a drill! Taylor Swift has officially announced her ninth studio album, “Evermore” is dropping tonight at midnight.
This announcement came as a total shock to everyone, as Swift released her last album “Folklore” this year in June.
Swift, 30, announced the surprise on her social media accounts earlier this morning.
“I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. It’s called evermore,” wrote Swift.
Swift went on to explain why she felt the need to drop another album so soon.
“To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs,” continues Swift. “To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.”
Swift gave a shout out to her “Folklore” collaborators, which also worked on “Evermore,” while also teasing new collaborations.
“And I loved creating these songs with Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, WB, and Justin Vernon,” she said. “We’ve also welcomed some new (and longtime) friends to our musical kitchen table this time around.”
“Folklore” was a departure from Swift’s country pop sound we know and love. The star took a turn and the risk was heavily rewarded.
According to Forbes, “Folklore” scored the biggest debut of 2020 with 846,000 units sold in the U.S.
Swift explained that “Evermore” is “Folklore’s” sister album.
“I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released,” said Swift. “There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning.”
Falling in love with the “Folklore” era, Swift says she loved the “escapism” she found when writing for that album inspired her to keep writing.
With Swift’s birthday approaching in just a few days, the star mentioned how this album is her gift to listeners.
“Ever since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now,” she said. “You’ve all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthdays and so this time I thought I would give you something!”
And for this gift we say, thank you Taylor Swift for making our week that much better! If “Evermore” is anything like “Folklore,” we’re sure the album will be on repeat everywhere. The 17 track album drops midnight eastern time.
