The LoveBirds Review (Spoilers)
I love to laugh. I know it sounds like a pretty generic statement but I’ve got it bad. I like to watch things that make me feel good, especially during times like these. If you’re the same way I definitely recommend that you watch the Netflix Original The LoveBirds starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani.
The story follows Leilani and Jibran, a couple who find themselves on the rocks. Four years into their relationship and they bicker constantly and can’t seem to agree on much anymore. They seemed like the kind of couple who would be better off as friends and not lovers. They finally end things and can both agree it was a long time coming.
They are sad for all of two seconds when Jibran suddenly hits a cyclist with his car. The cyclist is only mildly harmed but extremely terrified and quickly gets back on his bike and rides away. An undercover cop appears and overtakes their vehicle, claiming that the cyclist is a criminal. They follow the cyclist, thinking that they are in the pursuit of justice, until they reach the cyclist and the “cop” runs him over ON PURPOSE! I know, it just got really interesting. The “cop” leaves and the rest of the night Leilani and Jibran try to prove their innocence by following the trail of clues that they find which ultimately leads them to a…sex cult. If you don’t watch it for the comedy go check out the weird sex cult orgy!
You should really watch it. The jokes are fresh (they make some passes on cops and white frat guys that I think we can all get on board with *wink*). The chemistry between Issa and Kumail is amazing and it also has a sweet love story. It’s got the whole package. So if you have Netflix, or know someone who does, I definitely recommend you give it a watch!
