Tiger Woods was involved in a dangerous rollover car crash that left him with serious leg injuries. His car struck a median and flipped, requiring the “jaws of life” to be used.
The athlete was hospitalized following the crash.
Injuries
Woods was driving down a curvy road south of Los Angeles, known to be a problematic road with a large amount of accidents. Emergency responders were at the scene and transported him to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
The 45-year-old golf star sustained a shattered ankle and compound fractured in his right leg, in addition to severe muscle and soft tissue trauma.
“Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his lower right extremity that were treated during emergency surgery,” Dr. Anish Mahajan stated.
The golf icon received rods and pins to stabilize the broken bones and trauma to the muscles and tissue in his leg during the emergency surgery.
The Accident
Woods was driving a 2021 SUV, heading northbound and lost control before hitting the median. He also almost hit the director of “Grown-ish” minutes prior to his accident.
According to a crew member, Oliver Konteh, Woods came close to hitting the director’s car early that morning. According to the director, Woods was “agitated and impatient” and “took off fast.”
“He was like, ‘Yeah, you know what? I almost got in an accident with f–king Tiger Woods. He almost hit me’,” he quoted the director.
According to the Los Angeles County sheriff, Woods was “not drunk” and the crash was “purely an accident.” There will be no criminal charges filed against Woods for the accident.
Investigators are still looking into what factors may have led to the accident, but at the time there is “no evidence of impairment” that led to the crash.
“This is what it is, an accident,” the sheriff stated. “There was no evidence of any impairment whatsoever. He was lucid, no odor of alcohol, no evidence of any medication, narcotics or anything like that that would bring that into question.”
According to his Twitter, Woods is “awake and responsive” after his long and intensive surgery. We send our thoughts and well wishes out to Tiger during this time!
