16 Jun What You Really Need for Your First Apartment | Scoop Sorority
Getting your first apartment can be very stressful.
You don’t know what to buy or what will make your apartment look cute. And I was the same way. As an over-packer, I have figured out what you will really use in your apartment.
Here are six essential items you’ll need to make your life easier, or your apart feel homier:
We’re sure you’ve heard of Command Strips, but they’re actually worth the hype!
Command Strips aren’t like regular tape; it can be used for so many different things. Typically, people will use these strips to hang things on the wall like frames or posters. They work great because they won’t strip the paint from the wall or leave a hole as a nail would.
In some cases apartments don’t let you nail things to the wall, so if you need to hang a hook or those cute fairy lights around your room, they have Command Strips for that too!
You can find Command Strip hooks that can hold up to 16 pounds. I personally use these to hang my winter jackets on. They even have specific small clear light hooks that are practically invisible.
Overall, Command Strips are a necessity for your apartment.
Mattress Foam Topper
The amount of stories I’ve heard about how someone isn’t getting good sleep all starts with the fact that they either have a one-inch foam topper, or don’t have one at all.
The key to a good day starts with a good night’s rest, and a comfy bed makes all the difference
If you’re like me, you take making your bed the comfiest place on earth very seriously. I recommend putting a four-inch cool foam mattress topper, and a pillow top mattress topper over your mattress. You definitely won’t regret it!
If you don’t make your apartment feel like home with, you won’t feel as comfortable in your space. This is why I consider decor essential.
Fake plants are the affordable way to go when wanting to spice up your living space. A few real plants are okay if you are up for the challenge, but you can put fake plants in hard-to-reach places or on shelves that cannot take a lot of weight.
A cute vase of fake flowers in the kitchen always adds a warm touch to the environment.
Another simple decor idea is adding pictures or art to your walls.. It will fill up space and make the apartment feel and look more like your own.
These bad boys are a lifesaver.
You may notice that all of the outlets in your apartment aren’t where you actually need them. Getting a variety of size extension cords will help you put your furniture wherever you want without having to keep those outlets in mind.
Another perk? Being able to plug in your phone and use it wherever you want.
This is probably the one thing I cannot live without in my apartment. Even though you have filters in your AC unit, the amount of dust that builds up is enough to pass through the filter.
I find air purifiers crucial because they will help prevent getting sick often and even cut down your cleaning time. It’s always smart to get an air purifier with HEPA filters because those trap air particles like pollen, pet dander, dust mites, and more.
Isn’t it annoying when you’re fast asleep but are rudely awoken by bright lights? Having a motion sensor or dark sensor night lights will help you or your roommates from needing to turn on every light in the apartment.
From my experience, I’ve even noticed the electrical bill went down after I bought the night lights for my hallway, kitchen, and bathroom. It gives me enough light to safely get from my front door to wherever I need to go, without tripping on something.
This is something I would have never expected to buy as an adult, but found it to be unexpectedly useful.
