Zendaya Corrects a Gendered Question She Wasn’t Happy With

Zendaya is receiving support and love from her fans after rejecting a gendered question in an interview with Vanity Fair for their annual Hollywood Issue.

The 24-year-old American actress and singer was participating in the video series, “Proust Questionnaire”, when asked what she likes “most in a man.” She responded by rejecting the gender and said “person” instead.

The Big Question

“What is the quality you most like in man?” the interviewer asked. “I most like in a person, how about that?” Zendaya responded.

When talking about what she looks for in a “person,” she said ‘kindness’ is the best virtue.

“It’s such a big question. What is the quality I most like in someone? I would say ‘kindness’ is kind of not the best way to describe it, but some people are just good people, and you can just feel it,” she said. “I don’t know how to explain that but there’s this little spark they have or this little special thing that they have, that you feel safe and happy around them.”

After she explained how ‘special’ it is when someone is kind, she was asked, “What do you most like in a woman?”

“Well, I guess that’s the same answer,” the Euphoria star stated.

She was then asked, “What or who is the greatest love of your life?” and she stated that she loves her job so much.

“I’m so grateful that I get to do what I love to do. But it doesn’t even feel like a job,” she described.

Fans Respond

Social media has been excited and raving about her responses. One fan tweeted, “this is why I’m actually in love with her.”

“At first I kinda hate the Vanity Fair interviewer for asking ‘what qualities do you like the most in a man’ but when it gives Zendaya a chance to answer ‘well what about in a person?’ I totally am here for it,” another fan stated.

Zendaya has been open about her feelings about gender in the past. She released a gender neutral fashion line in 2017 and styled her character in “Spider-Man Homecoming” in gender-neutral outfits.

She has also been awarded for impacting LGBTQ youth.

On The Cover

Zendaya is being featured on the cover of the 27th annual Vanity Fair Hollywood issue. Vanity Fair is ‘celebrating the actors, producers, and directors who pushed storytelling forward with hope and humanity during a surreal years,”

The issue is focusing on how ‘interpreting this year’s events has become central to their work’ and the ‘opportunities for more lasting, positive change’ in the entertainment industry.

Zendaya stated that this time has allowed her to explore herself and discover more about her life away from work.

“For me, it’s that I never really got to know who I was without work. I’ve always been working. I started working when I was so young, and I’ve always just had a consistent thing happening in my life. I just had never spent that much time with myself. I was like, ‘What makes me happy? What do I like to do other than work? Do I have any hobbies?,” she stated.

Congratulations to Zendaya for landing the cover of Vanity Fair. She never fails to stand up for what she believes in!
